Whitby – Eatery & Events
Your partner in good times.
Whitby is a Bendigo eatery and events venue built around a simple idea: your partner in good times. It is a space designed to be as comfortable for a quiet weeknight dinner as it is for a full scale celebration, with the kind of old school hospitality that makes people want to come back.
The name plays on old school cool, built on years of service and professionalism, meeting playfulness and approachable friendliness. It is warm, familiar and a little cheeky, exactly what you want from a good local.
Brand StoryWe partnered with Whitby to build a brand from the ground up, including brand naming, brand strategy, visual identity, packaging, spatial design, print and digital collateral, social media design and animation, for a hospitality venue in Bendigo.

ScopeRather than building a brand around a logo or a menu, we built it around a character. We created a brand story based on a brand hero, Whitby, a larger than life personality who is at once the venue, the staff and the spirit of the place. Whitby is not just a name on the door, Whitby encompasses all that is hospitable.
That story became the foundation for everything else, giving the venue a distinct point of view and a reason for every design decision that followed, rather than starting from aesthetics alone.
Our Approach
The key visual is carried by bold illustration work and a pronounced, alter ego colour palette, with influences from past design eras given a modern twist to add a touch of nostalgia. It feels familiar, homely and approachable, never tries hard.
The result is a retro yet playful and funky character that sets Whitby apart from the local competition and gives it a look built to age well, not date quickly, across signage, collateral, social media and the wider guest experience.
